Sensory-Friendly Family Day at City Museum: A Morning Made of Wonder

This past Saturday morning, Easterseals Midwest welcomed 235 children and caregivers to City Museum for a sensory-friendly family experience presented by Southern Bank, and for only a couple hours, the building began to breathe a little bit differently.

Before the doors opened to the public, families explored the museum's winding passages and playful architecture at their own pace. Slides echoed with laughter and climbing spaces invited movement without rush. Caves, corners, and playing areas became places to pause and simply be with one another.

By limiting attendance and working closely with City Museum staff to lighten sound, adjust lighting, and reduce sensory overload where possible, the morning gave off something gentler. Trained Easterseals staff were on hand throughout the event, offering support and reassurance, while a space on the second floor provided a reset whenever needed.

Events like this remind us that inclusion is about widening the door to change the joy. Thanks to the generosity of Southern Bank and the partnership of City Museum, families were able to experience a beloved St. Louis landmark in a way that felt welcoming and supportive.
