Meet DeAndre: Driving Into the Future

For DeAndre, the endgame was imagined much before the keys ever hit his palm.

He wanted that car.

Not just any vehicle, but what it promised: freedom and flexibility, with a little bit more say in how his days come and go. Years ago, that idea popped into his head and wouldn’t leave. This past summer, it finally gained some traction.

With the support from his Employment Specialist, Sue, and Independent Supported Living Arrangement (ISLA) member, Terry, DeAndre moved the needle. He saved. He planned. He developed financial habits brick by brick, learning how money moves and how choices add up to something bigger. To prepare for the long road ahead (quite literally), he took a refresher driving class, diving back into the driver’s seat without much, if any, hesitation.

His progress expanded through long-term consistency. Through showing up. Through realizing the goal was worth the effort he was putting in.

And in July, it fully paid off. DeAndre purchased his own Buick Envision, a moment marked by the pride of an endgame. The kind that lingers long after - far into the future.

Now, his world stretches a little bit wider. Friends don’t feel as far out of reach. Events are much closer. Long bus rides are no longer the default. With employment support and skill-building behind him, DeAndre isn’t journeying from point A to point B - he’s steering his own course.
