Paid Work-Based Learning | A no-cost opportunity for Kansas students to gain real work experience
Work has a way of building confidence: a first paycheck, a new skill mastered, a shift completed. Through this program, students often discover they feel more confident, more independent, and proud of what they’ve earned.
Participants will:
- Develop real-world job skills
- Discover the value of earned income
- Explore different industries and workplaces
- Gain competitive work experience
- Build a resume for future opportunities
Who can participate?
This program is designed for Kansas high school students ages 16-21 with disabilities who are ready to take their first step into the working world. Students who join can:
- Try a real job
- Learn valuable workplace skills
- Earn a paycheck
- Explore different career paths
For some students, this first job becomes the doorway to the next.
What happens in the program?
Participants work at real businesses in their community, gaining hands-on experience in everyday workplace environments. You will:
- Work alongside employees at a local business
- Earn pay for the work you complete
- Practice essential job skills
- Build confidence and independence
Tasks may include:
- Organizing and stocking materials
- Office support and basic data entry
- Cleaning and facility support
- Light landscaping tasks
- Hospitality and customer service support
